7 Chapters focused on Science, First Aid and Hygiene
1. What is fire and how does it work
Children learn about the importance of fire, the dangers of fire, and what a fire needs to survive. Along with the practical skills of how to put out a fire.
2. Washing our hands and why it is important
Children learn about the importance of washing their hands and personal hygiene. One of the most common causes of death that takes account for 10% of deaths among children under 5 is diarrhoea. Largely due to poor hygiene. Children realise the need and learn how to properly wash their hands in a rigorous 8 step guide.
3. How to brush teeth and why it is important
Children learn of the risks of poor oral hygiene and tooth decay. The students are given a model of adult teeth and toothbrush to learn how to brush their teeth properly. A video is uploaded on our Youtube channel to show these children how to brush their teeth properly in case they do not remember from class.
4. Smoking, and why it is bad
Children learn about smoking and vaping, which is very prevelant among youth and adolescents in Indonesia, and learn the real implications of smoking and vaping. There is an experiment that follows this chapter which teaches the children on how their lungs work and how smoking affects their breathing.
5. How to clean a wound
Children learn how to properly clean and dress a wound hygienically. With the use of bandages and plasters that they can practice in the classroom on their friends.
6. How to clean water and why
Children learn of the importance of clean water and how to filter water in a DIY filter. The DIY filter teaches them how to make clean water at home for laundry and hand washing, however emphasises on insufficiency in purification for hydration. Children can engage their parents or guardians to boil the filtered water using their knowledge of fire in the first chapter.
7. Why should I wear a mask when a volcano erupts
Children learn about what occurs during a volcanic eruption and the negative consequences that breathing the polluted air nearby a volcano has on their health. Attached is an experiment on how they could make masks using old clothes to use to filter out impurities in the air after a nearby eruption.
